The Meaning Behind the Design
“I hold both: my light & my shadow. Magic lives where they meet.”
This design is a celebration of wholeness, self-compassion and the beautiful possibility that opens up when we learn to embrace all that we are, both our light and our shadow.
At its heart is the image of a solar eclipse, that extraordinary moment when the Moon moves across the face of the Sun, allowing light and shadow to create something breathtaking together.
In August 2026, I had the privilege of witnessing and photographing a solar eclipse in Gibraltar. As I watched this beautiful celestial dance unfold, I was reminded of something deeply meaningful about our own inner worlds.
We all carry light within us: our joy, tenderness, creativity, love and capacity for connection. And we all carry shadows: the fears, wounds, protective patterns and parts of ourselves that we may have learned to hide, judge or push away.
Yet our shadows do not make us any less worthy of love and kindness. They are part of our human experience, often carrying stories that long to be met with understanding rather than judgement.
Just as the eclipse reveals a different kind of beauty when light and shadow meet, something beautiful can unfold within us when we begin to make room for both.
Not by allowing our shadows to define us, nor by insisting that we must always remain in the light, but by cultivating a gentler, more compassionate relationship with the fullness of who we are.
And the little bird carries a story of its own. It was actually an ornament that found its way into some of my photographs quite unintentionally. In the dimming light, I hadn't even noticed it was there until I looked back at the images afterwards. Yet its unexpected presence came to symbolise something beautiful to me: the freedom that can emerge when we no longer feel the need to hide parts of ourselves to be worthy of belonging, love or acceptance.
To me, the magic of wholeness isn't found in becoming someone who no longer has shadows. On the contrary, it lives in the growing capacity to hold our light and shadow together, with love, curiosity and discernment.
A wearable reminder that every part of us deserves to be met with compassion. We don't have to choose between our light and our shadow to embrace our wholeness. Magic lives where they meet.
