This design reflects the many regions of the human nervous system - from calm connection to protective activation and deep rest.
Inspired by a compassionate understanding of how our bodies respond to the world, it invites a gentle shift in perspective: nothing inside you is broken.
In each state, your nervous system becomes your inner guardian, working in its own way, trying to keep you safe.
The regions within this design include:
Open Meadow (Safe & Social): calm, connected, present
Shifting Sands (Fawn): adapting, appeasing, self-sacrificing
Bursting Dam (Flight): restless, driven, moving away from discomfort
Volcanic Ridge (Fight): protective, boundary-setting, highly energised
Frozen Forest (Freeze): alert but still, holding a lot of tension in stillness
Hibernation Cave (Shutdown): withdrawn, conserving energy, deeply resting
This model is a gentle map, not a fixed rulebook.
We don’t all experience every state in the same way, and some states can overlap or blend. For example, “fawn” can feel like connection mixed with urgency, or connection mixed with stillness.
There is no single way your system should look.
This piece is a reminder that by noticing where we are, meeting ourselves with kindness, and cultivating a sense of safety within, we can begin to work with our nervous system, not against it.
